Leaning In—Upfront and Personal

It’s been a long time since a business book has received the attention and praise of Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In. And the acclaim is well deserved. As someone continually involved in helping women achieve their full corporate potential, I found myself nodding in agreement over and over as I read Sandberg’s book.  She tells it right and tells it straight.

What’s equally heartening to me is that we at WOMEN Unlimited, Inc. have been imparting these principles for years.  We’ve never called it Leaning In; but that’s what we’ve encouraged our program participants to do by taking responsibility for their own success… by finding not just mentors, but the right mentors… by focusing on excellence, not perfection… and by acknowledging their own power to help forge their company’s success.

The similarities were too great to ignore.

That’s why I am very pleased to announce a Twitter event at which our WOMEN Unlimited alumnae will discuss how they’ve used Lean In principles gained at WOMEN Unlimited programs to advance their careers and their corporations’ success.

JOIN US FOR A LEAN IN TWITTER CHAT

WOMEN Unlimited will be hosting this live Twitter Chat on “Leaning In,” Tuesday, May 21st at 1:00 PM EST.  The Chat is open to all WOMEN Unlimited alumnae, participants, as well as to the public at large.

We look forward to a spirited and informative discussion of the principles Sandberg puts forward in Lean In. The format is sure to invite active participation. Every 5 minutes we will post a question related to a key get-ahead strategy proposed in Lean In. Tweets during that time will be around that question and how the principle has helped (or hindered) corporate advancement.

As a long-time advocate for women at the highest levels of corporations, I see great value in this Twitter Chat for career-minded women at any level.  They will gain a greater understanding of how others are putting Lean In strategies to work.  They will discover that, whatever they call it, they may already be practicing Lean In approaches.  And they will get a sense of how WOMEN Unlimited for years has been helping women activate these strategies throughout their careers.
