WOMEN Unlimited, Inc. Explores Attracting and Retaining Female Talent in the STEM Fields

New York, NY, 10/19/2016 – WOMEN Unlimited, Inc., the leading provider of organizational solutions to help organizations create an inclusive environment for advancing their female talent,  hosted a webinar:“STEM: Developing and Retaining Female
Talent.”
 on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

In a panel moderated by WOMEN Unlimited, Inc.’s President & CEO, Dr. Rosina L. Racioppi, STEM industry experts presented their research and insights on the continued lack of diversity in the STEM fields, and identified tactics to make these roles more attractive to high potential candidates. The freeform discussion with Liz Borowsky, Senior Director, Akamai Technologies, Inc. and Jennifer Harnden-Koehler, Ph.D., Executive Coaching & Talent Management Consulting, Talent Acceleration Group, also explored ways for women currently working in STEM fields to navigate the hurdles inherent in a male dominated industry.

Dr. Harnden-Koehler’s original STEM research indicated women currently hold less than 15% of senior management roles in pharma and biotech companies, and represent only 10% of board seats within the STEM industry. The webinar focused on four related questions:

  1. Why are women not pursuing careers in STEM fields?
  2. What are the specific barriers to career growth & development for women in STEM fields?
  3. How do we shift the industry towards a more inclusive environment?
  4. What can current industry leaders do to make STEM roles more enticing to female candidates?

The key takeaways from this session address management’s role in creating an environment of “conscious inclusion” for their diversity team members and in improving programs, practices and strategies to counteract the current lack of diversity.

WOMEN Unlimited, Inc. aims to share these insights with the entire business community.
